We sat down with our senior designer, Kelly, to gain a glimpse behind the creative process and how our patterns and prints come to life in our collections.

Drawing Inspiration from the World Around Us

“Personally, I’m constantly inspired by my surroundings, so I try to make sure I’m out there seeing and doing all that I can to stay creatively inspired.”

Whether that be from art galleries and museums, walks through nature, pondering the sky, or seeking out amazing architecture—inspiration is everywhere. This constant exposure to diverse influences fuels creativity and ensures Sylvia P's designs are always fresh and captivating.The Journey from Concept to Creation

The design process involves meticulous planning and artistic craftsmanship. It starts with a trend concept leading from the initial inspiration, backed by thorough research. The work continues until Kelly and her team are happy with the concept, mood—and the plan.

"Print and textile design is a is a joyously and creative process—however it does requires a well thought out idea in order to execute it well.”

Kelly and the SP design team then choose colors and begin hand-drawing or painting their creative concepts. These initial sketches are transformed into digital formats and transferred onto fabric through printing and pressing techniques, ultimately resulting in the vibrant and eye-catching prints adorning our leotards today.

“Without a good plan, your print will never turn out how you expected it to—so it’s always best to lay a great foundation.”

Colors as the Foundation of Expression
